Destiny Junior Education Centre
Destiny Junior Education Centre is located in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya
The school was founded in 2013 by Judith Odero after realising there was a need for more schools in the local area. Judith shared her vision with Joyce Maina, Austin Ajowi and a number of community members and together they rented a building to open a school in January 2013.
The school educates 365 children ages 3-13 years. Over twenty five percent of the children are orphans and the school also supports 15 children with HIV. The school consists of ten classrooms spread across two buildings. The school has ten teachers and a number of support staff. Teachers are currently being trained by a local college to become fully qualified.
Nia Children’s Foundation has supported Destiny Junior Education Centre with food supplies each month from May 2014 until present.
Destiny Junior Education Centre is also supported by Edu Afric and the Aga Khan Foundation.
