2nd Annual ‘Nia Champions League’ Football Tournament

Lets play ball…

This year’s tournament was yet another fantastic event with 20 teams going head to head on Sunday 26th June at the Hive Football Centre. It felt like the hottest day of the year with the sun blazing and many of us getting sun burnt! Although the heat was intense, our teams didn’t let this affect their performance and fought until the end. Tottenham legend Peter Shreeves and Mill-wall Winger Terry McQuade were our top refs on the day and gave the players a few tips on how to improve their game.

We raised an amazing £2,239 which will help us to take on our second school to feed and educate a further 160 children by the end of this year.

The Harrow Times newspaper released two articles about the event. Please click here and here to view them.

Thank you to all the players, volunteers and supporters who took part.

As a fitness professional & youth football coach I was excited to participate in the ‘Nia Champions League’ Football Tournament in 2011. Upon signing up for this tournament I learnt more about the wonderful work the Nia Children’s Foundation and how they support the health and education of children in Kenya. I must say that after playing in a wonderfully well organized tournament, getting told off by the referee (ex Tottenham Manager Peter Shreeves!) and playing against teams from all over the UK it was a fantastic snapshot of the spirit the Foundation embodies. The event was a success and my team and I were proud to be part of a great tournament, which has done so much for the children in Africa… Long may it continue!
